2 suspects detained in Cayo robbery
San Ignacio police have captured two men and recovered the cash stolen in an armed robbery on Monday in the Cayo District. Salesman for Quality Poultry, twenty-three year-old Carlos Perez de la Rosa and his assistant, Kevin Tun, were heading from San Ignacio to Spanish Lookout around four-thirty Monday evening when about a mile north of the Belize River, they were ambushed by three armed masked men.
The gunmen took Perez and Tun out of the vehicle, commanded them to lie face down on the road, and tied them up before escaping with over seven thousand dollars belonging to Quality Poultry, and personal effects belonging to the employees. The two suspects detained by police are a Guatemalan and Honduran. Police recovered the money and personal effects, along with two weapons from one of the suspect’s residence in San Ignacio Town. A rented sports utility vehicle, believed to be the getaway car, was found in the area of Billy White Village. Meanwhile, the search continues for another Guatemalan and a Belizean, both residents of San Ignacio.
