Another member of Guat. gang found dead

Last Thursday, fifty-five year old Carmita Garcia was fatally shot after she attacked one of the men who held up her family during a robbery at the Garcia’s house in Bullet Tree Falls. Garcia reportedly chopped one of the culprits with a machete after one of the robbers fired a shot at her son. At the time we did not know the power of Carmita’s blow; now we do. Apparently it cut off his arm. While this act of bravery cost her her life, it has also led authorities to one of their suspects. According to San Ignacio police, On Saturday, they followed a blood trail that started at Garcia’s house and ended fifty yards away, where they found the body of seventeen year old Guatemalan, Manuel Santos. Santos, who was missing an arm, had apparently bled to death not long after the robbery and murder. Beside his body, authorities found a mask and a sixteen gauge shotgun. Both the Belize and Guatemalan police have been working together to solve Garcia’s murder and other armed robberies in the area. Santos is the second member of the gang of robbers to have been killed. The first suspect, who has still not yet been identified, was shot dead after the same group of bandits held up a business in Guatemala, but the proprietor shot back, killing one of them on the spot. Today, authorities on both sides of the border are looking for the three remaining suspects.
