Friend Turned Burglar Remanded for Attack on Senior Citizen
Mahogany Heights resident Floyd Escarpeta has been charged with burglary and theft in connection with breaking and entering into the home of a senior citizen farmer and stealing his valuables and pick-up truck. The twenty-three-year-old is alleged to have entered the residence of ninety-two-year-old Modesto Bardalez on the Coastal Road with one other person and stolen a cellular phone, rubber boots, machete, assorted tools, and a radio, then fled in a two-door Ford pick-up truck belonging to Bardalez. Bardalez told police that he recognized Escarpeta and another man as his attackers because he gave them help when they visited his home before. Police recovered the truck with Escarpeta’s assistance. The court prosecutor told Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer that Escarpeta should not be let out on bail as he has been threatened by relatives and is known to the victim, leading to possible interference. Escarpeta has been remanded until his next court appearance.
