Belize takes bronze in C.A./Carib. basketball
We would have liked to report tonight that the Belize National Basketball Team pulled off a surprise upset of Puerto Rico and went on to trounce the Dominican Republic en route to a shiny gold medal in the Central American and Caribbean games in El Salvador. But to paraphrase the Rolling Stones, while you can’t always get what you want, sometimes, if you try real hard, you get what you need. And that’s exactly what Belize got this afternoon in San Salvador with a solid eighty-nine, seventy-nine win over the Guatemalan National Team. It was enough to earn Belize a bronze medal, not to mention important bragging rights in what can sometimes be a rough neighbourhood. Statistics are scarce, but sources at the games indicate that A.C. Augustine scored twenty-two points, while Alex Carcamo was good for twenty. The final between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic will be held tonight.
