Hit and run driver receives a beating
Further north in Orange Walk, a hit and run driver discovered that while you may be able to drive away from an accident, there is no guarantee that you will get away. Shortly around 7:00 on Friday night, fifteen year old Ryan Bowden was riding his bicycle from Trial Farm to Orange Walk Town when he was knocked down by a pickup truck driven at the time by Rene Garrido. As Bowden laid on the highway suffering with serious head and body injuries, it is reported that Garrido just drove away. Bowden was pickup by neighbours, who transported him to the Northern regional Hospital. According to police, as the group arrived at the hospital they spotted Garrido and gave him a good beating. So good that Garrido had to be admitted to the hospital after sustaining serious wounds to his face and hands. Bowden was later transferred to the K.H.M.H. where he remains in a serious condition. According to Orange Walk police, Garrido was unable to identify any of his attackers, so they have not been able to bring charges against anyone. However, Garrido has been charged with several counts including driving without due care and attention, failure to stop and render aid, failure to report an accident and driving with an alcohol level above the prescribed limit.
