Traffic accident victim sues drivers and their employees

Story PictureThe court also heard today the plea of a traffic victim in a horrific collision involving a delivery truck and a National Transport Bus which left six people dead and several injured in September of 2007. And while it can be said that twenty-eight year old Yolani Herrera was fortunate to survive, her life has changed drastically since the accident. That is why she is suing all parties involved; National Transport Services Limited, bus driver Tyrone Gillett, German Vega Enterprises Limited and their truck driver, Michael Escalante. Herrera is seeking compensation for her injuries, which were mostly to her face, hands and upper body. She was four months pregnant at the time of accident and after spending nine months in a hospital bed, she can only digest liquids. She is so ashamed of her facial injuries that she hides them with a hand rag, which she was reluctant to remove in court today. Herrera has undergone several operations to her face, but is still urgently in need of reconstructive surgery that will cost sixty thousand dollars. The civil suit began in the Supreme Court this morning before Justice Oswell Legall with an eye-witness testimony from Rene Juarez, who claimed he was driving behind the delivery truck when the collision occurred. But attorney for National Transport, Hubert Elrington, felt that Juarez was a friend of the truck driver and was there to lie on his behalf. Attorney Audrey Matura-Shepherd is expected to cross examine Juarez when the case resumes. German Vega Enterprises and Escalante are being represented by Naima Badillo.
