Plane flips on landing at municipal airstrip

Story Picture
When it departed Big Creek at around 4 o’clock this evening, it seemed like a routine flight to Belize City. However, the pilot, Daniel Perdomo, his co-pilot and four passengers on board the single engine Cessna 206 got a rude awakening upon landing at the Municipal Airport. As it tried to touch down, the plane suddenly flipped, winding up with its wheels in the air. General Manager of Javier’s Flying Service, Lidia Espat, says she was on her way home when she got the message that one of their planes was in trouble.

“My nephew called me and tell me that the plane turned over and we came out here. Daniel said that he was landing, a wind shear came and blew the plane one side. One of the wheels got hit on the edge and flipped over the plane.”

Espat says this is the first time that Javier’s has ever had an encounter like this. The company is now left with only a Cessna 172 three seater in its fleet. Reports to News 5 indicate that some of the plane’s occupants suffered injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. The Municipal Airport was closed after the incident and planes were rerouted to the P.G.I.A.
