Why P.U.P. Doesn’t Need Lord Ashcroft’s Money
The party leader also addressed questions of campaign financing. The P.U.P. continues to be dogged by accusations of obtaining funds from Lord Michael Ashcroft, but Briceño insists it is not so. The party is being buoyed by donations from all its supporters in business and around the country and promises it will not let them down.
John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader
“Lord Ashcroft has always been the ‘bogeyman’ – whenever anything is going wrong, ‘Oh Lord Ashcroft, Lord Ashcroft, Lord Ashcroft!’ The reality is that not even their own U.D.P. financiers want to continue to spend money on a sinking ship. We have been trying to get monies from all over the country and as they say, ‘lee bit, lee bit full basket’ and that’s exactly what we are doing. We are stretching our monies and our campaign is not so much about money. It’s about hard work; it’s about love; it’s about commitment, it’s about starting to make the case that we must change direction in this country, and that better has to come. And that can only come starting with councils led by the P.U.P.”
