P.G. cops nab gang of robbers
Some determined police work in Toledo has led to the arrest of a gang of armed robbers. Guatemalans Justo Martinez, Roberto Garcia and Jose Garcia are behind bars tonight after they allegedly held up a bus and robbed a gas station. Witnesses say that on Saturday morning around nine, three men–two holding a gun and one with a machete–entered the Texaco station near Big Falls Village. After making the employees lie on the floor, they made off with eight hundred dollars in cash and some assorted groceries. They left on foot, running into a nearby orange grove. And that’s when their luck ran out. A police patrol, already on alert from a bus hold-up the day before, arrived within a few minutes and gave chase. The manhunt eventually ended with the cops catching up with the trio and forcing a surrender, but not before Jose Garcia received two gunshots to the leg. One was at the hands of police, the other courtesy of Justo Martinez, who was not happy with his partner’s decision to give up. The three Guatemalans have been charged with robbery as well as keeping an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They are expected to also be charged in connection with the jacking on Friday, in which they took sixty dollars and some personal items from the conductor of a P.G. bound bus. The men have been positively identified by victims of both crimes and some stolen items have also been recovered.
