Why minister must go, now!

The P.U.P. leader placed full blame on Prime Minister Dean Barrow for not following through on his repeated promise to stamp out corruption. He insisted that nobody knows for sure what has been going on even though Martinez appears to be showing a conspicuous increase in wealth from ten years ago. And that, he said, is because the Government has been lenient in pursuing corruption, a path that must change if Belize is to continue into prosperity.

“It is obvious that something wrong is going on in the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation, and before that in the Ministry of Works where Boots Martinez was the Minister. The Prime Minister needs to take decisive action, and he needs to take decisive action now. He promised this country that he was going to end corruption. And here now we have one of his Ministers implicated directly or indirectly in many of the scams that have been happening in the Ministries that he controls. I think the Prime Minister needs to fire Boots Martinez from the Cabinet now. And secondly, have a thorough and complete investigation and audit in all of the Ministries [in] which Boots Martinez has been in charge since 2008. And that report should be tabled in the House, and a copy should be given to the police, for them to do any investigations. And if there are any criminal activities that took place, then the people that perpetrated these crimes must be held responsible.”
