On the eve, fire engines come out for U.D.P. in P.G.
On this eve of municipal elections, attention is once again being drawn to allegation of the misuse of government resources to support the ruling political party. On Monday night in Punta Gorda Town, the United Democratic Party hosted a rally featuring Prime Minister Dean Barrow as guest speaker. There was a motorcade into the southernmost town led by a police patrol and featuring a fire engine. Opposition Leader John Briceño considers that an unnecessary waste of government resources and says he will put a stop to it when the P.U.P. take power.

“We find the act of using government assets to promote the political work of any political organization deplorable; we condemn it. And to go to the point where you had the fire engine leading the U.D.P. parade, I find that disgusting, and I condemn it in the most strongest of terms. They even had the police patrol leading also in the parade. It is something that I can assure you that a new P.U.P. government will not tolerate. There should be no government vehicle participating in any kind of political activity, and that is something the U.D.P. has been doing constantly.”
