Car Dealer and Teacher are Gun Targets

Meanwhile, a Belize City resident remains in custody tonight pending further investigation into an attempt on the lives of a couple on the eve of municipal elections. Police say car dealer, twenty-seven-year-old Kadeem Myers and teacher Jerilin Flowers were injured in a shooting just after eight o’clock on Tuesday night on Rhaburn’s Alley in north side Belize City. The couple was socializing with a group of other persons when a man known to them opened fire in their direction. They were rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment. Assistant Superintendent of Police Alejandro Cowo says that the motive appears to be the result of ongoing gang war in the area.

“They proceeded to the K.H.M.H. where they saw two persons suffering from gunshot injuries. The first person was Kadeem Myers, a Belizean car dealer of number thirty-three Pickstock Street; he was seen suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the left upper leg. And his friend who was along with him, Jerilin Flowers, a Belizean teacher of number 104 North Front Street was seen suffering from apparent gunshot to the left side of her foot. Wat police has gathered so far is that prior to the shooting, they were socializing at number sixteen Rhaburn’s Alley in front of the yard along with a group of male persons when a known gunman came from the nearby bushes and fired several shots in their direction causing the above-mentioned injuries to Mister Myers and to the female, Flowers. Police at the scene recovered eleven expended shells. During the process a male person was detained and is still in police custody and is being questioned in regards to this shooting. Mister Kadeem Myers was admitted in a critical condition, but he is recovering very good and at this moment he is in a stable condition at the hospital.”
