Supreme Court rules against BTL in INTELCO case

Belize Telecommunications Limited received some bad news today in its campaign to overturn government’s contract with rival INTELCO. Supreme Court Justice Christopher Blackman ruled that the leave for judicial review granted by him on April sixteenth should be set aside, on the grounds that in its application B.T.L. failed to fully disclose all the facts at its disposal. B.T.L. alleges that the contract for INTELCO to provide government with telecommunication services should have been advertised and put to tender. The court was not able to hear the merits of that allegation since today’s ruling means that B.T.L. failed to make its application in the proper time and manner as required by law. It is believed that B.T.L. will appeal today’s decision.
