Gov’t Still Too Spendthrift

Mark Lizarraga

According to Lizarraga, G.O.B. in 2017 had promised austerity measures to cut back on operational expenses. In the 2018 Budget, they’ve only been able to do so by two percent, as opposed to the proposed five percent. The Senator calls for the government to more seriously pursue being efficient in curtailing expenses and managing debt.

Mark Lizarraga, Business Senator

“It is disappointing to see that the government has only managed to shave two percent off its expenses last year. We question the seriousness of government in curtailing expenses, in becoming more efficient if they have only managed to save two percent. Once again, we have seen the government take up the financial debt per affidavit by the Financial Secretary to one hundred percent of GDP. That remains alarming. Given our dare financial constraints, given the need for government to borrow to even pay its payroll—according to the financial secretary—and all the other things that we’ve been hearing, we would like to see restraint, better prioritization of government in the spending of our tax monies and the committing to these burdensome loans. We have seen capital investments that were made in projects that we cannot afford to run.”
