Over $26,000 missing from Min. of National Security
There are reports of Theft coming from the Ministry of National Security in Belmopan. According to police reports, the ministry’s Finance Officer discovered eight fuel vouchers that were approved without authorization. The vouchers —issued between December seventeenth 2008 and the seventh of this month— total slightly more than twenty-six thousand dollars. It was also noted that the vouchers were paid to a vendor, Carlos Chan, who is not a supplier for the government. Officials from the ministry reported that the finance officer was checking the Smart Stream System when he noticed the discrepancies. Police are seeking a suspect in regards to the matter.
And in the old capital, thieves targeted two vehicles on Newtown Barracks over the weekend. Not only were both robberies in the same area, they also occurred within an hour and a half time span. The first was a red 1998 Ford Escort, which according to Michael Reynolds, was in the M.J.’s Grand parking lot on Saturday night. But between eleven-thirty and midnight the car, which was valued at eight thousand dollars, went missing. The second stolen vehicle, a blue 1986 Toyota pick-up, was parked a stone’s throw away, in front of Marina Towers. Ernesto Reyes, the owner of the pickup, reported that it was stolen between twelve-thirty and one o’clock on Sunday morning. That pick-up’s value is approximately six thousand dollars. Police have since recovered Reynolds’ car, without the battery and license plates, from a feeder road near mile three on the Western Highway on Sunday. Investigations continue.
