Cover-Up Underway in Drug Plane Landings, Sources Allege

Police this afternoon confirmed that the single person held in connection with a suspected drug plane that crash landed in the Cuatro Leguas area of Blue Creek, Orange Walk around midnight on Wednesday has been released. The individual is said to be highly connected and credible information suggests that the Police Department has been shaken to its core as investigations take place. The downed plane originated in Venezuela and is similar to other suspicious aircrafts found in February up north. There have been other discoveries of suspected drug planes for some time now suggesting that Belize is being used as a transshipment point for narcotics heading north.  News Five’s Aaron Humes reports on the latest developments.

The plane which landed in the Cuatro Leguas area of Blue Creek, Orange Walk, is believed to have had its cargo removed and transported into Mexico. A man known as an employee of a Mennonite businessman was detained while leaving the remote area and was questioned, but has since been released. It is claimed that more than two persons were aboard the plane. They allegedly managed to flee the area to safe haven in one of the villages in Orange Walk. However, new and startling details have are being leaked which allege a cover-up in the highest recesses of the Police Department in the investigation. There is no confirmation, but it is suggested that the senior officers in charge of the investigation have been transferred from Special Branch headquarters to other posts effective immediately. Police were not able to confirm the transfers at news time. It has also been suggested that the formerly detained suspect has been making calls to his Government connections to get him out of his jam. The plane, which originated in Venezuela, has been tied to an area resident who is also said to be Government-connected. There is also news of another plane landing which has not been reported.
