Chester Says Goodbye to PSB

The now-former head of Professional Standards Branch has led a number of high-profile investigations during his time in that branch over the last six months. It has confirmed that there is no shortage of police officers still willing to risk their badges for the promise of riches for illicit activity. While Chester Williams is moving on and up, he assured that the discipline of the department is still his burden.

“I was very aggressively pursuing those officers who were out there, continue to be out there, doing things that bring the integrity of the Department into disrepute, to see how we can alleviate those situations. I know that no matter what we do, we’ll never rid ourselves of officers who want to go on a frolic of their own and commit breach of discipline as the case may be, but the important thing is that as a Department, we must show that we are serious about dealing with these officers. And I must say that in my time there, I was given the authority by the Commissioner, I was given the latitude to deal with those officers, and we dealt with a lot – yes, there is more to be done. And as the [new] Deputy Commissioner of Police, I still have that responsibility of ensuring that discipline prevails within the Department. So the fact [is] that I am no longer going to be Commander, Professional Standards Branch, [but] I remain a high-ranking police officer, and even more a higher-ranking police officer, second to the Commissioner, and as such, I still must ensure that discipline prevails within the Police Department, because that is one of the ways that we will be able to build that trust and confidence with the public.”
