P.M. Says Corruption in Police a Priority

Dean Barrow

The other key to solving the crime chain is erasing corruption within the police department. Prime Minister Dean Barrow made reference to some police officers’ cozy relationships with the underworld element. He served notice that no one with a badge will any longer be able to lay claim to its power without severing ties with those who impede the greater department’s crime-fighting initiatives.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“We are well aware of problems in the Belize Police Department; we are well aware that there are some police men, perhaps women, whose behavior, whose interaction with the underworld, to put it mildly, leaves a lot to be desired. Again, that is part of the remit of the new expanded leadership of the Department: to try to eliminate as much as possible that kind of relationship which is such a keep-back in terms of the crime-fighting effort.”
