Family violence leads to charges
Meanwhile, a man finds himself in trouble with the law after he allegedly fired shots at his nephew. Fifty-seven year old Elbert Vernon of Belize City has been charged with attempted murder and damage to property. The charges follow a report by his nephew, twenty-two year old Francis Vernon, that in the wee hours of Sunday morning they became involved in a heated dispute at his house on Regent Street West. Vernon says his uncle left, but returned shortly with a shotgun, which he fired at his house. Although none of the pellets hit Francis, they did damage his computer and other household items. Elbert Vernon appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord this morning and was granted and met bail of six thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount. He was ordered to reappear on December second.
