Wayne Usher challenges for mayor
In other news from the red corner, another Belize City resident has thrown his hat into the mayoral ring. Last week Wayne Usher, a Barrack Road businessman and former permanent secretary, announced that he will seek the Belize City mayor’s seat in the municipal elections in March. According to Usher, his strategy is to get the support of U.D.P. standard bearers.

“I have sort of asked for them to support me based on merit and my background in the service, and not to judge me because they don’t know me. In other words, look at my past background in the public service, look at my qualifications, look at how I plan to address the various issues affecting Belize City and then make your decision. And that’s what I’ve been asking all these committees to do. And if they feel that they’ve assessed all of that I probably am the better for that position, then not only themselves to vote for me, but encourage people in their division to also vote for me; and in that way I hope to win that convention.”
The U.D.P. Mayoral convention is set for December eighth. Usher will run against Ann-Marie Williams, who announced her candidacy in August.
