No one shows up at commission of inquiry

Story Picture
The Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate the recent immigration scandal continued proceedings today, but guess what, nobody showed up to make their recommendations to the panel. According to Commissioner Bishop Sylvestre Romero Palma, the no-show could be the result of a number of factors.

Bishop Sylvestre Romero, Commission Member

“Probably we made the mistake of doing it from 9:00 to 12:00, which most people will be working. That could have been the reason why they didn’t show up. Maybe too, that people do not believe that we are doing is something that is worth the while, we have to take that into consideration.”

“I think people are really losing their trust and I can’t blame them for some of the things that is happening, not only government-wise, but even with people working in public offices or anywhere. I don’t want to just pinpoint on government, because it happens all over, even within the church. And I think this is creating not only in Belize, but worldwide, people losing the trust of people of integrity.”

The commission is presently examining chapters one fifty-six and one sixty-one of the Nationality Act with a view of making amendments where they see fit. The Commission should forward its report to Prime Minister Said Musa within the next two weeks.
