Kearney Thompson is Latest Murder Victim
Turning to crime…thirty-one-year-old Kearny Thompson lost his fight to survive injuries received during an armed attack on March third in Belize City. He succumbed to gunshot wounds on Wednesday at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after two and a half weeks of treatment. The shooting, now upgraded to murder, has not yielded any fruit for investigators working the case. Despite having detained several persons in the wake of the incident, an arrest is yet to be made. According to Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, Thompson was a known gang affiliate who happened to be on rival turf in Lake Independence when he was accosted and shot.

“Where are we in terms of that investigation now that it’s a murder?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“Well, the investigators from the incept were on the ground. I Know that we have detained several persons who were interviewed, however, there is no direct link to them in regards to the shooting so they had to be released.”

“And in terms of any personal beef with anybody, have you been able to establish if he had, since he was known to police?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“Well, we know that he visited that location to see a family member who resides in that apartment. The family member was not present, so he was speaking to one of the tenants of the apartment when the shooter came and fired the shots in his direction. Yes, he is from another gang area and where the shooting happened is another gang area likewise. Yes, we don’t have anything in our files to indicate that he might be a member of any of the gangs, but unfortunately, we know of the rivalries between the different gangs in Belize City, so we believe that that is the motive for that shooting.”
