Mountain bikes compete in Lucky Strike
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’ve just stepped aboard this flight of Sports Monday. Our first destination takes us to the Ricalde Stadium where yesterday Corozal’s Victory played host to O.W.’s Juventus in B.P.F.L. football action.
As we go to the picture, you might be confused by the near resemblance in sportswear displayed by both ball clubs, but it’s O.W. forcing Delmar Sutherland into the save. It’s more Juventus when Elroy Kuylen tracks down this floater, but too much body on the goalkeeper Sutherland negates the shaking of the net.
Corozal’s first real attempt at goal comes from number ten, Gabriel Alvarez, the Argentinean, but it only manages to make Stanley Jordon fumble momentarily.
Oliver Hendricks then gets his turn to move the scoreboard, but he was battered enough to miss the target. Football is a game of inches, and this header from Oliver Hendricks inches outside the sticks.
On this press, Hendricks opts for the assist with this perfect pass to Rayford Anderson, but it’s rendered on the squander heap.
It’s thirty-five minutes in when Raul Celiz floats this spotkick. Marcelino Tun raises in the air and Juventus takes a 1-zip lead; a lead they take into intermission.
We’re some fifteen minutes into second half when Clifford Usher is taken down inside the area and referee Wellington Hall rules penalty against Juventus. Corozal looks to its Argentinean import for the execution. Gabriel Alvarez makes no mistake with the conversion and we have a 1-1 tie.
This score would hold up through regulation as both ball clubs settle for one point apiece.
In other B.P.F.L. matches over the weekend, Sagitun bombed Builder’s Hardware Bandits 4-1; Kulture Yabra blanked San Pedro Turquoise 1-zip. And breakout the champagne for Griga United, they picked up their first season win with a 2-1 blast over Acros Real Verdes.
Changing gears folks, we take you to Lucky Strike for the Lucky Strike Nature Challenge–a mountain bike cycling event that started off on fifteenth October with all fourteen teams participating. Six teams with three riders apiece arrived at yesterday’s finals namely: Courts Belize, Belize Bank, Angelus Press, Barclays Bank, Atlantic Bank and Belize Water Services.
Today’s finals find three races featuring six riders representing each of the teams that had qualified. The winner would emerge with the best aggregate time.

“At the moment we have about ten miles of trails that are cleared, and we already have tours going through them whenever the ships come in, especially Carnival. At the moment we’re doing a promotion with the different companies and firms in Belize City. We’re getting everyone involved with outdoor activities, promoting a healthy lifestyle, teamwork and that sort of thing. We have companies competing for first, second and third prize finishes with fifteen hundred dollars for first place, five hundred for second and three hundred for third place. Something like fourteen different companies and firms are participating at the moment. Presently we’re at the finals with only six teams. At the moment Belize Bank is leader, but we have one more race to go and that will decide who will be the winner.”
Courts Belize totalled one hundred and thirty minutes, two seconds to take top honours. The Belize Bank finished second with one hundred and thirty-three minutes, while third place went to Angelus press, who posted a total time of one hundred and forty-two minutes and forty-eight seconds.
