Seven police officers of the Eastern Division North were recognized for doing good work today. The awardees each received certificates and a small gift to thank them for the performing well on the job. They were honored with a brief ceremony today and we stopped in to talk with the officers on their latest accolade.
Sr. Supt Ralph Moody, Commander of Eastern Division North
“It is a joint award. We try to recognizes officers of the month and as well ERT – we request from them dedication and put in extra hours. So, for us to keep them motivated, we try to give them a little incentive and recognize them as well so that they can continue to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. We look at several things – the arrest and not only that we picked up that person and prepared the paper work, but as well the submission of the case file and the conviction of persons in court. We look at as well the effort that they put into the community work. So, that is the guideline that we look at to select those officers.”
Sgt. Graciano Briceño, Precinct IV, Officer for Month (January)
“It is a pleasure and honor for me to be awarded as an officer of the month because me, as the Sergeant, I lead by example. I don’t send my subordinates out there to do the work but I go along with them so that I could support them and show them the right way what to do.”
Sgt. Daniel Pascual, Commander of ERT, Precinct IV
“It is very good for the team. It is a motivation for the four of us. We have a four personnel team. I am in charge, seconded by Miss Zuniga. The hard work usually pays off and thank goodness we are being recognized now – within January to now for success we have had then up until today. One of the most rewarding things, I believe, is just being successful with the interdiction – well, between January and now – we have had three firearm that we have recovered. We have had a quantity of cannabis – about four-hundred and odd grams. It feels good when you get those things off the street. If you hear on the news daily people are being killed and the weapon of choice being firearm. For us, as a team, to recover three firearm and the precinct overall we have recovered five within January and now. So, we are doing pretty much good and that is the contentment personally get.”
Andrea Polanco
“What’s a typical day like for you on the ERT?”
Marleni Zuniga, Second in Command of ERT, Precinct IV
“We would search people that we are not familiar with in the area because a lot of people use the Chetumal Bridge or the BelCan Bridge to come over and do mischievous things, so we stop and search them. Tinted vehicles and we also do house searches from time to time.”
