“In an open area they found the remains of a human hand on the surface of the ground. As a result police along with Scenes of Crime personnel and the Forensic Department dug out the area and retrieved the decomposed body of a person. The body was taken to the morgue where a postmortem was conducted and the doctor certified that the person had died as a result of gunshot wound that he had received to the head. The person was identified as that of missing person Jamal Humes who was reported missing from the twentieth of December 2017. This was confirmed by his identification that was found on his person and other belongings that he had at the time with him.  Unfortunately, Mister Paredes succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning at about three o’clock while receiving treatment at the K.H.M.H.  The persons who were detained for that investigation had to be released because of the lack of evidence at this moment.”

“We are still questioning people in the area and we are still asking for their support. We know that there was a group of persons that were along with him. We are pledging to them to come and assist us so that we can solve this matter as we know definitely who were the persons involved in this shooting.”

Meanwhile one person has been charged for the murder of sixty-four-year-old Mario Guerrero Senior, who was killed at his Sunset Park home. Allen Felix was arrested and charged for the crime and taken before the courts today, before being remanded to the Belize Central Prison. Also appearing in the magistrate’s court today was Christopher Witzil who was arrested and charged on Wednesday for the attempted murder of Tyrick Myles, Derrick Pineda and Natisha Tillett who were injured in a shooting on Saturday on Mopan Street.
