Castellanos is P.U.P. candidate in Cayo Central
At the same time former Minister and Stann Creek West representative Henry Canton leaves the world of politics for the private sector, so too does a colleague from the West. Agriculture Minister Dan Silva will remain in that post until the elections, but will not be running for his seat in Cayo Central. This weekend a special convention was held to select a new candidate for the People’s United Party, and emerging from the crowded field was Mario Castellanos. Castellanos, a one time activist for the United Democratic Party, topped the polls with three hundred and thirty-two votes, to beat opponents Louis Gentle, Evaristo Avella, Elsa Vasquez and Armando Cowo, who finished with two hundred and twenty-six, one hundred and eighty, one hundred and sixty-six and sixty-six votes respectively. Castellanos will square off in the general election against U.D.P. nominee Rene Montero.
