New investigators for immigration scandal
While police have received well deserved praise for their quick arrests in the Paslow fire and several recent shootings, their record is much less impressive when it comes to non violent–so called “white collar”–crime. After almost three months of investigating this summer’s immigration scandal, not a single arrest has been made. The case is now in the hands of its third lead investigator, having gone from Bernard Lino to Gerald Westby and now the duo of Mario Vernon and Justo Augustine. Recently added to the team are Inspectors Miguel Segura and Miguel Guzman. Commissioner Carmen Zetina has justified the delay on the grounds that the case is complex and requires numerous interviews. That may or may not be true, but the longer the investigation drags on, the greater the suspicion that more official energy is being spent on protecting criminals than bringing them to justice.
