UWI University Singers in Belize for Major Anniversaries

Andre Bernard

The University of the West Indies is celebrating its seventieth anniversary with a bang. University Singers are in Belize to mark the occasion with the UWI Belize Open Campus. The chorale group will be holding two shows over the weekend in Belize City. Today, the President Andre Bernard told us why you should attend one of the shows this weekend.

Andre Bernard, President, UWI Singers

“It is the celebration of a number of milestones; the seventieth anniversary of the University of the West Indies; the sixtieth anniversary of the University Singers and tenth anniversary of the Open Campus here in Belize. So, we are here for the shows that are going to bring those celebrations to a high point this weekend.  The University Singer presents to its audiences a diverse musical offering. There is something in our show for every musical palate. We can guarantee that every musical taste will be satisfied when you come to our show this weekend. So, if you want something from the classical genre you will get that, if you want spirituals, folk, African, soca, reggae, dancehall, the whole mix – that you can be assured of when you come to a University Singers production. Not that I say production, it is not just a show. You will not come to see just a choir that sings wonderfully, we give you an entire artistic and truly theatrical experience when you come to our show.  I want to encourage everyone in Belize to make sure you make it a point of your duty to be at the Bliss Theatre this Saturday at 7 p.m. and this Sunday at 5p.m. It is only thirty dollars. That is almost free and for the kind of product that you are going to get you are guaranteed not only excellence in terms of musical quality but you can be sure that you are going to be incorporated in this theatrical experience. Since we are in Belize, we have something for the Belizean people. Yes, we have tailored the program in such a way that it will appeal to them in a very specific way. You want to be there to find out what that is and we are delighted to be able to share that with you. So, please, don’t miss it.”

Again, the shows take place at the Bliss on Saturday and Sunday. Entrance fee is thirty dollars.
