Kemmar Wade is Latest City murder Victim
A twenty-seven-year-old customer service representative was ambushed and killed on Wednesday night in Belize City. Kemmar Edgar Wade was shot to the back of his head, rib cage, and left forearm. He was driving on Saint Jude Street when he came under fire by a gunman. Even as he bled, Wade made his way to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital but crashed into the side walk and succumbed. While the motive for his murder remains under investigation, there is a theory that Wade was killed in retaliation of an incident involving a relative. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.
Twenty-seven-year-old Kemmar Edgar Wade is the most recent murder victim in the Old Capital. After eleven on Wednesday night, Wade was driving his Saturn car on Saint Jude Street when a gunman opened fire in his direction. Three bullets caught him to the upper part of the body; one to the back of his head. But even as he was gravely injured, Wade managed to drive himself to the hospital, where he succumbed minutes later in the parking lot.
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, C.I.B., Belize City
“He was pronounced dead on the scene by the doctors who were giving him medical treatment. He was identified to be Kemmar Wade, a resident of Belize City. The investigation is ongoing in regards to where and how he may have sustained those injuries and as far as we know, he drove himself to the hospital, to that area where he was found.”
But reports are that the police had responded to information of a traffic accident in front of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, only to find that the driver was the victim of a shooting. Wade reportedly lost consciousness upon entering the parking lot adjacent to the emergency entrance and crashed into the sidewalk.
“Sometime around eleven-thirty, police were called out to the Lion’s Club parking lot; this would be in front of the K.H.M.H. or adjacent to the front parking lot for the K.H.M.H. Initially, information received was that it was a road traffic accident or injuries consistent with a road traffic accident. Upon examination of the driver of a vehicle that was in that parking lot, it was discovered that he had sustained gunshot injuries to the head and body.”
Up until his untimely death, Wade was employed as a customer service agent at the Philip Goldson International Airport. He is described by Kalim Habet Junior as a soft-spoken, intelligent youth.
Kalim Habet Jr., Vice President, Aero Dispatch Services
“Kemmar came to us roughly about a year ago looking for a position here at the airport. He came across as a very bright young man looking to better himself in many ways so we brought him on board as a customer service agent. After speaking with his supervisors that oversaw him over the last eight months to a year, everything was very positive. So really, I would say that everybody is in shock as to what’s taken place and very saddened. We don’t have all the details as of yet, so we are kind of just taking this minute by minute as the day goes on to see what happened and what we can do to assist as we go forward.”
The father of one son lived here in a room on the lower flat of this Mopan Street apartment in Belize City, not too far from where he was shot on Jude Street. But who would have wanted him dead and why? Police say he has not had run-ins with the law.
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino
“The investigation has revealed some information in regards to him; he’s not known to police.”
“Sir, we understand…well persons have informed us that they believe that this particular murder is a retaliation, so to speak, in some ongoing feud. Persons are telling us that Mister Wade’s brother; there was a theft of his gold chains, valued around two thousand dollars, and that he may have retaliated against the person he believed to be the thief by burning that person’s vehicle. And that there was a subsequent retaliation with Mister Wade being shot as a consequence of all of this back and forth. Has any such information come to police?”
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino
“Not as yet. The investigation is ongoing at this point and we will be looking into all aspects of this investigation.”
Duane Moody for News Five.
A post mortem on the body of Wade is scheduled for Friday at one p.m.
