Councilor Micah Goodin at Odds with Mayor Bernard Wagner?
Is there discontent brewing at City Hall over Mayor Wagner’s leadership style? Earlier today, outspoken councilor Micah Goodin, in a social media post, expressed his dissatisfaction in the municipal leader. He began by thanking the electorate in Belize City for voting him into office on March seventh, then proceeded to inform that he will not be offering himself for a second term in 2021, all while considering stepping down as a councilor. Goodin claims to have lost all confidence in Mayor Wagner, whom he says does not listen and heed advice. According to Goodin’s post, this has resulted in him being unable to, “achieve the vision I have for the young people of Belize City.” This is against the backdrop that the People’s United Party municipal slate was elected on the platform of social infrastructure. Late this evening, through his public relations department, the mayor says, “Contrary to any postings on social media. Mayor Bernard Wagner enjoys the confidence and support of councilors of the Belize City Council. The Mayor continues to work and provide the services to the city residents. Mayor Wagner and his council look forward to spending Labor Day with City Hall employees at their appreciation day.”
