Latest section of S. Highway dedicated

Another piece of the freshly paved Southern Highway was dedicated this morning. Section four of the road, paid for by a loan from Taiwan’s International Co-operation Development Fund, runs for seventeen point four miles from the South Stann Creek Bridge to the junction of the Big Creek Road. In his first major address as Minister of Works, Vildo Marin used the opportunity to point out that this project will not be the last major road built in the south.

“We will not stop in Punta Gorda. Indeed it is the vision of my Government to extend this highway to the border with Guatemala. We will be opening a new frontier, investing in confidence and optimism. Never again can the south say that they have forgotten, for we know that this road will open new investments.”

Section four came in at a cost of twenty-two million dollars, while when completed, the entire road project will have cost around a hundred million. Contractor for section four was Cisco Construction.
