Smart Belize Hurricanes Import Belizean Overseas star Devin Daly for Playoffs

On the heels of a strong performance on Monday night at the Belize City Civic Center, the playoffs for the 2018 season of the National Elite Basketball League kicks off tonight at nine p.m.  Smart Belize Hurricanes is once again hosting; this time, Dangriga Dream Ballaz will go head to head with the formidable team. But Team Hurricanes isn’t taking any chances going into the playoffs. They’ve brought in Belize’s very own Devin Daly, the current shooting guard with for an international team in Denmark.  Daly touched down at the P.G.I.A. this morning where a News Five team caught up with him.

“It just feels good fi deh home right now, yo know. Honestly I noh even deh dah di game yet right now; I just di think about see everybody, see the family, friends and just enjoy myself home right now.”

“But you know, people say yo di bring that international type of play to the ball court tonight. Talk to us about what we could expect.”

 

Devin Daly

“Well I mean, honestly tonight dah just fi help out the ‘Hurricanes’ any way I could—if dah defense, if dah scoring, whatever it is…advise while the game di go on. Dah noh really anything specific I di bring or soh, but just fi play a team ball and just continue going.”

 

Duane Moody

“It’s been a while that you’ve been back home to play. Talk to us about your anticipations, being back home and how yo feel.”

 

Devin Daly

“Mien, two hundred and sixty-eight days to be exact, I’ve been away and right now I just have a lot of energy, a lot of jitters ina mi, but I just wah calm down ina di next hour or two, eat some rice and beans—small portions of course cause dah game day; no hudut—and then yo know, game time.”

 

Duane Moody

“Just for those out there who, like you, would want that opportunity that you’ve received—being scouted and out there playing professionally—what advice would you have for them?”

 

Devin Daly

“Hard work always pays off and really and truly when yo di try be better ina anything ina life—it could be sports, it could be school—there are no little things. Yo can’t cut no corners; yo just need fi put in the time and it wah come.”
