Man crushed to death by parade float
A Belize City man lost his life on Independence Day when he was crushed under the wheels of a truck. According to police, the accident happened around 1:00 on Saturday afternoon. The citizen’s parade had just finished at the Yarborough Green and most of the floats that took part in the event were making their way back to their various destinations when tragedy struck on Regent Street. It is still not certain exactly what unfolded as the flatbed trailer reached King Street, but authorities say forty year old Gilbert Henry was trying climb onto the float when he apparently slipped and fell under the vehicle’s rear wheels. Henry’s head was crushed and he died on the spot. Police say investigations reveal that Henry had been drinking prior to the accident.
