FIFA, F.F.B. to Install Synthetic Pitches in Belmopan and Belize City

While speaking with F.F.B. President Sergio Chuc, we also found out about some mega projects that the federation has in the pipeline. These include the refurbishing of the F.F.B. stadium in Belmopan and the recently acquired lease on the football court near the Raccoon Police Station in Belize City. Both fields will be retrofitted with world class synthetic pitches and in the case of the Old Capital; access will be given to some twelve schools located within a two-mile radius of the field. Chuc says these projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

“By the end of June we will be starting with the synthetic turf right here at the F.F.B. headquarters. We’ve just signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Sports Council where they will be leasing the field by the Raccoon Street Police Station, the field weh dehn call the ‘Dubu Field.’ They will be leasing it for a twenty-five year period to the federation with the condition that the federation puts a world-class synthetic turf right there on that field and fix the bleachers. And we will also put an office there and we’ll have a technical director and an assistant stationed fulltime there. FIFA was only waiting for this lease to be signed. We are going to get a world-class synthetic pitch valued at six thousand dollars and what I’ve done is I’ve put this in the hands of FIFA. They are going to do the bidding process; they are going to do everything. F.F.B. is not going to have a say on who gets this contract. FIFA is going to do all that because I know in the past, we had mismanaged the protects, the contracts, the big contracts, here at the headquarters and we don’t want any of that to happen again.”

As it relates to the pitch in Belmopan, Chuc says that FIFA has since sent three companies Brazil, Costa Rica and Spain to carry out inspections and will forward a proposal with their bids.
