Pitts’ Pique a Matter for Central P.U.P.
So how does the council feel about Doctor Candice Pitts who took a somewhat similar aim at her own party after being asked to step aside in Port Loyola in favor of Gilroy Usher Senior as the P.U.P.’s standard bearer in that constituency?
Oscar Arnold, Deputy Mayor, Belize City Council
“The situation with councilor or Dr. Candice Pitts as well, is a separate issue from the council. That is something that the party execs, the central party will have to deal with because that was an issue of national importance, because that was outside of city council. The members of city council were free to support or not support whoever they wanted in that convention. The party in its wisdom decided to have a meeting with Dr. Pitts and whatever came out of that meeting, well you guys know what the decision is now, we continue to move forward. Dr. Pitts continues to enjoy the support of the council, enjoy the support of the rest of the councilors and she’s carrying out here functions as a councilor as we speak.”
Isani Cayetano
“Now with these two incidents, albeit separate and apart of each other, how does this bode for the sense of unity within the city council?”
Oscar Arnold
“Okay. From where I sit, the deputy mayor’s position, there is a unified council. These things happen. It’s the time of year, Isani. It’s the time of year in the political cycle where there is an upcoming general elections, the P.U.P. has some areas and some seats available that they are seeking candidates for and these sorts of things happen. When all of those players are in place, you will see a different level of activity in the P.U.P.”
