CitCo Ready for Litigation over Firings
Sacking Candice Miller, whose contract as city manager extends to 2021, and several of her colleagues from City Hall, has likely exposed the Belize City Council to litigation. Those lawsuits challenging the legality of their dismissal, will only add to other claims that the Wagner administration has inherited. So is CitCo headed down a litigious path? That’s what we asked the deputy mayor this morning.
Oscar Arnold, Deputy Mayor, Belize City Council
“The reality is that the council does not operate in a vacuum and it’s enshrined in our constitution that if any one of us feels aggrieved for whatever purpose, the constitution gives us the authority, gives us the right to then go ahead and take legal action. The council, even before we got here, was tied up in legal battles with the waste control contracts, with other contracts before that, with employees that were terminated as well, with people that were injured while walking on the sidewalk and they fell through one of the missing manhole covers. So, we don’t operate in a vacuum and we understand that these things are a part of the normal course of doing business.”
