Girl’s body found in Corozal bay
Residents of Corozal Town awoke this morning to a shocking sight: the body of a young girl floating in the tranquil waters of the bay. Police were called around eight-thirty to an area near Rainbow Beach Park where the partially decomposed corpse was estimated to be that of an Hispanic female between four and seven years old. By this evening the body, which was not clothed, had yet to be identified, but a post-mortem conducted this afternoon indicated that the girl died from drowning. Foul play is not strongly suspected and there is speculation that the drowning victim may have perished in a distant area of the bay, perhaps even Mexico, several days ago. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the corpse was expected to be buried this evening. Police are asking any member of the public who can help solve this mystery to please come forward.
