Bartender Survives Ricocheting Bullet During Armed Robbery
Twenty-six-year-old Osner Campos, a bartender of San Pedro, is lucky to have escaped with his life on Friday night when an armed robbery at Wayo’s Bar resulted in a discharge of gunfire. According to Campos, sometime after eleven p.m., himself and another bartender were working at the establishment in Boca del Rio when two men entered the premises. One wielded what appeared to be a nine millimeter, while the other held a sawed off shotgun. During the robbery, the contents of a cash register were placed inside a bag, before the gunman fired a single round which ricocheted and struck Campos in the back of the head. Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo provided additional details.

“The first robbery happened in San Pedro. Friday night, just minutes after eleven, police were called to the San Pedro Polyclinic where they observed Mr. Osner Campos with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. What police gathered so far is that Mr. Campos was working at Wayo’s Bar located at the beachfront in the Boca del Rio area when two male persons entered the establishment and held up the owner of the business place and some patrons that were inside. As a result, one of the persons fired a shot that hit the wall and ricocheted at Campos, injuring him to the back of his head. He was brought to Belize City and on the following day he was discharged because his injury was not life-threatening.”

“Okay, so speaking about the incident at Wayo’s Bar…, we are told that suspects are detained in this robbery. Do you all have any information of that?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“Police were looking for two male persons but so far I do not know if anyone has been detained.”

“Okay, now we know that a number of the robberies that we’ve seen recently on the island have been involving people who are not from the island, maybe who migrate there or who go there seeking criminal opportunities. Do you know if the profile of the suspects matches indigenous islanders or those who have come to the island?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“I cannot tell you exactly if the two suspects that are being sought are from the district or from San Pedro. We have not established a description yet of the two persons.”
