Another security guard killed on duty
Recent history demonstrates that being a security guard is the most dangerous job in Belize today…and the shooting death of yet another watchman over the weekend only confirms that conclusion. While the cops search for clues, the cold blooded killers are still on the loose and as News 5’s Jacqueline Woods reports, it seems that the only motive of the brutal attack was to steal a weapon.

Around 1:00 on Sunday morning, three men walked up the steps of this Courts warehouse on the Western Highway and shot thirty-nine-year-old AAA security guard, Jean Rigal Louica, twice. Louica, a Haitian immigrant, had been living here for four years.
It was not until some four hours later that Louica was found by his supervisor, who had gone to the site to check on his employee. Louica, who was still alive, was suffering with gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. The guard was able to tell his supervisor that the men made him sit in a chair and then, one of men shot him with what authorities believe to be a thirty-eight revolver. Louica was rushed to the K.H.M.H., but he died around 10:00 that morning.
Police say they are still trying to find out why Louica was killed. Investigations reveal that nothing was taken from the Courts warehouse. The only item stolen was the security guard’s shotgun.
Anamarie Bennett, Courts Belize Limited
“We had found that there was no forced entry, everything was in order as normal. There wasn’t any break-in, nothing lost, nothing stolen.”
“On behalf of Courts Belize Limited, we’d like to extend our condolences to the family and hope that the persons involved are brought to justice.”
Today, as the Haitian community mourn the death of one of their own, Vilnor Charleron says he is not only upset over the death of his best friend, but also that his friend died while making an honest living to support his family.

“I feel bad about that, because me no like that. I can’t sleep. When I hear that from yesterday I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. Everyday sometimes I laugh, I will laugh because I can’t understand. Because when an Haitian come, he will find something to do because he no want to go and take somebody thing.”
“When they come to Belize, it’s hard you no have no family there. Anything you find to do, if you have bush, you cut it. The Haitians who talk to me say they no like do it, but when there nothing to do they try to do it.”
Police say at this time they have no suspects. Jacqueline Woods reporting for News 5.
According to our unofficial count, this is the eighth security guard to be attacked for his weapon since May of this year.
