Bringing “Peace in the Valley”

This week, the police department deployed a handful of officers into the area of Saint Martin’s infamously known as PIV.  They weren’t there to make any arrests, instead they were sent to survey residents in an effort to understand some of the challenges in that locality.  Here’s how today’s Meet and Greet went on Jasmine Street.

Chester Williams, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations)

“We’re here and we are doing Meet and Greet in the St. Martin de Porres area and we’re concentrating in the area of PIV which will be from Oleander Street all the way to Tibruce Street and there is no specific reason why we’re in this area, just to go back and touch base with the residents to ensure that we can get their feedback as it relates to the work that the police have been doing in the area.  Since our reconfiguration of our operations we have not been in this particular area, so we believe that it is only prudent that we come back to the area and talk to the residents and see how the reconfiguration has been working and we want to know in terms of the visibility of police in the area and what the police have been doing over the past couple months.  I must say that we have been getting some very positive feedback, the residents are happy that they are seeing more of the police now and from the police standpoint I know that we have been doing a lot in terms of stop and search operations, going after persons who we know are wanted for different crimes and things that we know must be done with a view to prevent crimes from occurring.  So I must commend the officers who are in this area on a daily basis as well for the work that they continue to do.  We know that sometimes they tend to become a bit complacent but it’s all a part of human nature.  It is our duty to continue to do things to motivate them and get them going as they go along every day.”
