Police to March Back into Martin’s

Geovannie Brackett

There has been additional manpower deployed into the Saint Martin’s area, including the presence of the Special Patrol Unit.  The team has been conducting mobile and foot patrols in the neighborhood prior to Tuesday night’s murder in Gungulung.  The community, says Deputy ComPol Chester Williams, is often difficult to police, especially since rival gangs are known to operate within its confines.

Chester Williams, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations)

“The Saint Martin’s area can be very challenging to police. And you would know that when tensions are high in this area, you average sometimes a murder a day. We have been doing our best over the past couple of months to calm things down in this area and as a part of our operation reconfiguration; we have assigned the Saint Martin’s area to the Special Patrol unit. And the reason we put them in this area is because we want to get a grip of the situation. We expect that they will be out policing the area more aggressively—and when I say aggressively I don’t mean brutal, but in the sense that they will be ensuring that the operational objectives are met on a daily basis. And I must say the results have been very fruitful for us and we want to ensure that we build on what we have to again ensure that safety of the people.”
