A Week after Murder, Father’s Other Son Hurt in Accident

A motorcycle collision this morning on Lakeview Street, Belize City, has resulted in serious injury to Jason Moreira.  According to reports, he was riding out onto the nearby carriageway when he came into violent contact with an oncoming vehicle.  The impact flung Moreira a distance away, while the vehicle that collided into his motorbike crashed into a minivan.  Moreira was pretty banged up and had to be rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he complained of striking pain in the leg and hip area.  News Five spoke with Thomas Moreira earlier today, who lost his other son to gun violence last week in the very same neighborhood.

“When I come I meet the accident.  All I know, I sih di bike into another vehicle over there and I sih di vehicle weh knock ahn over di drain in another yard.  So that’s all I could give, I have no other, no information that I could give you all guys.”

“What condition is your son in, have you had a chance to either visit him at the hospital or find out what’s happening?”

“Yes, well ih complaining dat da ih hip and ih foot, so we noh know which situation it is due to weh ih neva get no x-ray fu mek we, so we could seh well da ih hip broke or da ih foot broke or whatever.  So right now we are lost, so to speak.”

“Now it’s unfortunate that an incident such as this would happen just a week after they killed your other son.  How are you guys coping with these two tragedies or misfortunes, if I may?”

“Well in a situation like this, my grandma used to say, “Leave that to God.”  And, you know, me, I just say the Father first then me behind the Father.  So in everything I wouldn’t even know how to explain it right now because right now bredda, my mind di run through lots of lots of ways of thinking, but I got the Father behind me and I deh behind he at di same time.”

“Does it seem as though Jason’s injuries are either life-threatening or that severe that he would either lose his foot at this point or he has broken his hip?”

“No, no.  Di situation weh I sih this morning, maybe it could be, probably it could be a fracture, probably it could be a broken thing, but it’s not that life-threatening to speak at this moment.”
