UDP campaign launched with a bang

Story Picture
If your lamppost isn’t covered with political paraphernalia yet, wait, it will come. Election season is now in full swing, marked by the official launch of the UDP campaign on Tuesday night. Estimates vary as to the numbers, but a conservative headcount suggests that approximately one thousand party supporters gathered at the foot of the Bel-China Bridge to hear political speeches from hopefuls and activists alike. Here are some highlights of the event.

Dean Barrow, Party Leader, UDP

“Everyday somebody will climb the ladder, go up there and change the number as the countdown proceeds.”

Brian “Yellowman” Audinett

“Said Musa is my shepherd I shall not want. He leadeth me beside the still factories and abundant farms. He restores my doubt about the PUP. He anointed my wages with taxes and inflation, so my expense runneth over my income. But surely poverty and hard living shall follow me and I shall work on a rented farm and live in a rented house forever. Five thousand years ago Moses said, pick up your shovel, mount your butt and I will make you to the promise land. Five thousand years later, George Price said, lay down your shovel, sit on your ass, ride a camel, this is the promise land. This year Said Musa will take your shovel, sell your camel, kick you in your butt and told you he gave away the promise land.”

Dean Barrow

“Weh the PUP’s seh? They dah wah bunch of unknown, nobody know them. How the Americans deh seh it? Duh! That dah the whole idea, that we get new people fi transform the political process and who will depart from the politics as usual that has raped this country for far too long. So I say to you again, I am proud of the twenty-nine candidates of the United Democratic Party, and so should you be proud of your twenty-nine candidates.”

“We done get the sense and we know, and we make it clear, and in this I am supported by all my candidates that wi gwine een deh fi (we’re going in there to) work, work and work. And the first man weh (that) slip, I put five cents in ih pocket, you pen pan me… look yah, ih wah break away like the Afro, gone ih gone.”

“This dah noh wah UDP weh wah win by default. We could sit back and cruise, put it pan cruise control, because despite the crocus bag full of money weh deh wah haul out, PUP can’t win. But our work begins now if we are serious–and we serious like a heart attack. If we are serious about bringing the best governance to this country that has ever been seen, we prepare ourselves unremittingly from now. And that is the kind of work that is taking place.”
