P.S.U. Postpones No-Confidence Vote Against President, Executive

Earlier this year, long-time unionist and former president of the Public Service Union, Jacqueline Willoughby, severed ties with the union amid claims of defamation of her character. She has even instituted a lawsuit against the union and its president, Doreth Cayetano-Obermayer. However, she made an appearance at Saturday’s annual general meeting of the union in San Ignacio. We understand that she introduced a resolution for a vote of no confidence in the president, secretary general and second vice president as chair of the Union’s Resolutions Committee, crafted by other unknown members. But the resolution could not find support among the delegates present. Cayetano-Obermayer was elected last year at the expiration of the term of Eldred Neal, who came under sharp criticism for derogatory remarks in a recorded conversation with two other union members about the Garifuna culture. The resolution was ultimately deferred to next year’s AGM slated for Dangriga. Elections were also held for the open posts on the executive, which included the first Vice President, the Assistant Secretary General, and the Treasurer.
