Wife dies from beating; husband detained
In crime news, a Roaring Creek man has been detained after his common-law wife died of injuries following a beating he inflicted on her. According to police reports, forty-one year old Gilbert Mayen told them that he and his wife, twenty-six year old Pauline Williams, got into an argument on Thursday night after they had been using drugs. According to Mayen, Williams attacked him and he retaliated by punching her. When morning came, Mayen woke up, but Williams was unconscious and was pronounced dead on arrival at Belmopan hospital. A post-mortem determined the cause of death as internal bleeding stemming from a ruptured liver and broken ribs.
