5 compete for Costa Maya title

On Thursday night, five young ladies representing the Mundo Maya countries, will be competing for the title of Miss Costa Maya, 2002. The pageant takes place in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye and officially marks the opening of this year’s Costa Maya festival. Since Tuesday, the participants have been touring the country and attending a number of events, including a sashing ceremony that took place at Ramon’s Village, where the contestants were introduced to the public. They are: Paula Alonzo from Guatemala, Elsa Burgos representing Mexico, Pamela Portillo from El Salvador, Leslie Caballero of Honduras and Becky Bernard from Belize. According to the organisers, preparations for the Costa Maya festival have been going well. Tickets are available at Amigo Travel and you can call their offices at 226-2180 for more information.
