Man dead in feud on remote caye

A disagreement on a remote island has led to the fatal shooting of one man, the wounding of his common-law wife and the detention of the shooter. Around 9:00 this morning Paul Westby and Dorla Martin, residents of a nearby island, landed at Frank’s Caye in the Sapodilla range at the southern end of the barrier reef. What they wanted is not clear, but caretaker at Frank’s Caye, U.S. National Robert Moore, allegedly ordered the trespassers off the property. When they did not leave a fight ensued, during which Moore shot both Westby and Martin. Westby died of a chest wound while Martin, hit in the ribcage, was rushed to the K.H.M.H. and remains in critical condition. Moore reported the incident to the police and has been detained pending an investigation. News 5 understands that he is calling the shooting an act of self-defence.
