Community and Police Team Up to Arrest Fleeing Robber after DK Holdup

DK Supermarket is located at the entrance of the City where road works are ongoing. That location is heavily trafficked by commuters on foot as well as by vehicles. All that, however, did not stop a brazen single robber to target the supermarket. It all happened at about two o’clock when the unidentified robber walked into the store, held up the owner, took some items and fled on foot. He escaped in the area of Bella Vista and headed to the sea. But the store owner, employees, customers and the police were in hot pursuit and soon managed to pull him out of the water.  News Five Isani Cayetano and cameraman Joel Westby captured his attempted escape on camera. Here is that report.

Isani Cayetano, Reporting

Armed robberies have become a thing among criminal elements in Belize City recently, with thieves becoming more brazen by preying on businesses in various neighborhoods in broad daylight.  Earlier today, we stumbled upon an incident on the Philip Goldson Highway during which an individual entered DK Supermarket and made off with several items, including a bottle of Hennessy Cognac, following a brief scuffle with the store manager.

We noticed the commotion as we headed down the highway and quickly turned around and gave chase in an attempt to catch up with the fleeing suspect.  Several passersby, along with the Chinese businessman, his employees and Belama police, joined the pursuit.

News Five also spoke with an employee of DK Supermarket who was instrumental in the capture of the thief.

It is believed that the robber, whose identity we are yet to confirm, tossed a second bag he was carrying, which contained the stolen items from DK Supermarket.
