Drug rehab programme opens new HQ

They might be known for operating an outlet store filled with offbeat European goods, but REMAR is actually an organisation dedicated to helping Belizeans kick drug and alcohol addictions. This afternoon, official ceremonies were held on Johnson Street in Belize City as the organisation officially dedicated its new headquarters. According to REMAR’s Public Relations Officer Carlton Myvette, the programme plays a vital role in Belizean society.

“It means a lot because it’s a new image for the foundation in Belize. It will show people that not because somebody has fallen in this problem of drugs that they can’t actually come back to society and do something good for the society.”
“The programme is one hundred percent spiritual. It leans totally on the spiritual part of your life, where you do spiritual therapy two times a day, like 6 o’clock in the morning and 7 o’clock in the night. And apart from that, you have an occupational therapy that you do during the day to occupy your mind.”
“I’m so happy to see that now in Belize, the business sector is getting so mature that they are accepting this is our problem too, we need to help, so that we can be a part of what’s going on in the community.”
REMAR works in collaboration with the National Drug Abuse Control Council. The program began operating in Belize in April 1997.
