Dr. Louis Zabaneh, the New P.U.P. Standard Bearer for Dangriga

The People’s United Party continued with the election of standard bearers, who will be on the party’s slate for the next national elections.  In the south on Sunday, a convention was held to elect a candidate for the Dangriga constituency which also includes Sarawee and Hope Creek.  Close to one thousand two hundred electors cast their vote at the R.C. School in Dangriga. As many as five candidates put their name on the ballot including female candidate and the only P.U.P. councillor on the Dangriga Town Council, Erica Jang.  But women are not having a winning streak as far as conventions go within the P.U.P.  The candidates were Anthony Ramos, Gregory Ovado, Hilberto Arzu and Doctor Louis Zabaneh.  Zabaneh, a well known businessman and former president of Galen University, won the convention by a respectable margin ousting the four other candidates with Jang trailing in second place.   After the announcement of his victory, Zabaneh addressed the crowd.

“I also want to congratulate the others who contested this convention and certainly I want to say that I look forward for them to play an integral role in the future of the successes of the P.U.P. in the Dangriga division. We have a lot of work to do and even all the persons who supported me, we cannot do it alone. We need each and every person to be a part of this transformation and so I ask you to team up as we should from this very moment. From today, we are all one P.U.P.; one P.U.P.  I also want to take this opportunity to thank my family—my wife and my four kids—who have been there with me. We pray every day and we are here to serve and in fact they were the ones who challenged me to make the step and so here I am ready and willing to serve. And so my brothers and sisters, I want to thank the rest of you who have worked so tirelessly, especially our campaigners. I want to thank you very much for the hard work. And I want to ask you now to continue that hard work, uniting our party going forward. That’s the next mission and it starts today.”
